How to do it

  1. Stand holding a barbell with palms down, hands about shoulder width, knees slightly bent.
  2. Hinge at your hips until your upper body is almost level with the floor, back straight, arms hanging.
  3. Pull the bar up to your belly, elbows close to your body, squeezing your back.
  4. Lower the bar slowly to straight arms while keeping your body still.

Beginner tip: Keep your back straight the whole time and start light.
